Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What are the present accessibility and availability needs for Christian Science Nursing training today?

There is no accredited instruction or instructor available in Canada. This means that most training must occur in Christian Science Nursing training schools in the USA or Europe. The distance and required time commitment away from home make it less accessible to Canadians. Le Verger School of Christian Science Nursing was the one School providing on-site instructors here in Canada however, that is now becoming less available.

How much training is really needed before a trainee may accept a Christian Science nursing case?

There are four required levels in an accredited Christian Science Nursing training programme, which take an average of 4 to 6 years to complete. In a facility setting, the trainee is under the wing of a supervisor — a Journal-listed Christian Science nurse — when working. A private duty trainee in levels 1-3 must also consult and be working with a Journal-listed Christian Science nurse in order to accept an in-home case.

Who can “represent” themselves as a Christian Science nurse?

The standard and expectations to represent the Manual Bylaw is as any other specialty or profession.  It requires the whole heart, a deep commitment, and a spiritual and practical preparedness. The term Christian Science nurse is God appointed, not self proclaimed. The Mother Church’s present Christian Science Nursing Manager’s office expectation is that all four levels of training and mentoring are completed to meet the requirements and apply for Journal-listing. The Journal-listing process verifies the individual’s experience and readiness to fulfill the Bylaw fully. This upholds the high calling and standard of the Christian Science nurse.
