Christian Science Nurse Bylaw: Article 8, Section 31

The provision for a Christian Science Nurse contributes to fulfilling the Christian care needed within our Church communities. The Manual of the First Church of Christ Scientist Boston MA , outlines the requirements for the Christian Science Nurse.

Our Leader Mary Baker Eddy writes in part of the Rules and Bylaws in the Manual:

“They sprang from necessity, the logic of events, — from the immediate demand for them as a help that must be supplied to maintain the dignity and defense of our Cause;”

Christian Science Nurse. Sect. 31. A member of The Mother Church who represents himself or herself as a Christian Science nurse shall be one who has a demonstrable knowledge of Christian Science practice, who thoroughly understands the practical wisdom necessary in a sick room, and who can take proper care of the sick. The cards of such persons may be inserted in The Christian Science Journal under rules established by the publishers.

Christian Science Nurse Training

To train as a Christian Science nurse one must be a member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston MA, USA as outlined in the Manual ByLaw; have had Primary Class instruction in Christian healing; be a serious student of the teachings of Christian Science; be an active member of a Branch Church where possible.

Christian Science nurse training is available at Wayside house in British Columbia from a certified Le Verger instructor offering all levels of training to qualified applicants. Additionally, Christian Science nursing training is offered at various Christian Science nursing facilities throughout the United States.

Training Costs

The four Christian Science nursing organizations in Canada: Wayside House, Sharon House, Concord Lodge, and Vancouver Christian Science Nursing Service stand ready to assist with training costs, if needed.

Other facilities and training schools may offer payment for training to committed candidates (USA).
